EMDR Therapy
As life happens, our body and brain work together to organize the live stream of information we receive. The brain-body duo uses instincts along with what we’ve learned to date to make sense of what's happening to and around us. The brain LOVES patterns and pairing “like with like,” so new experiences are stored with past experiences that share commonalities. We can imagine them as being held together in a multilevel storybook web constantly in motion, shifting and weaving past experiences with new ones as they unfold. Stored experiences then help interpret new ones. They guide our choices, inform how we connect with others and direct our behavior.
So what is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized body and mind therapy that can help heal past, recent, and even present-day experiences causing distress. It’s been extensively researched and is well-established worldwide for mental health treatments. EMDR is an effective process for treating various mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, and trauma. Healing occurs by targeting the distressing memories, narratives, emotions, and physical symptoms rooted in a disturbing experience. EMDR also lends itself well to online therapy.
As an EMDR-trained therapist, I can guide your process of connecting to and clearing out distress symptoms, healing trauma, releasing emotional aches, and rewriting painful stories with an empowered message. We collaborate and map out a holistic, culturally-considerate, and trauma-conscious healing journey to ensure we're moving through the phases of EMDR therapy with intentionality and at a pace that feels right for you. We tie in practical tools for self-awareness, staying grounded and present, and self-soothing. I also offer a specialized EMDR approach, called EMDR-PRECI, that helps process recent, ongoing, and even future-related stressors.
